British Pig and Poultry Fair ’08 first to forge supply chain links

For the first time, the 2008 British Pig and Poultry Fair will encompass all members of the supply chain with some significant changes and developments for the event, which will be held on May 13th and 14th 2008 at Stoneleigh Park.

The leading industry event, organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of England, will forge new ways to address the deepening challenges faced in the pork, poultry meat and egg markets, not least the increasing feed prices and environmental responsibilities.

“While at its core, the 2008 Fair continues to provide producers and their immediate suppliers with the latest industry technology, information and opportunities for discussion, it also plans to offer genuine opportunities for processors and retailers,” says Event Manager Alice Bell.

Producers can no longer operate in isolation from the rest of the supply chain; there has to be understanding and co-operation between producers, processors and retailers, both up and down the food chain.

Alan Murphy of ABN, the Fair’s partner, explains: “We want to make sure that processors and retailers visiting the Fair can gain something of real value – knowledge, ideas or contacts that can help their businesses progress in a way that benefits producers.

“We are currently considering ways to put processors and food service representatives in touch with the people they want to meet,” he says.

The Fair will provide quality technical information for producers and, for the first time, it will feature dedicated pig and poultry seminars in a new purpose-built theatre. The seminar programme will cover the key issues affecting producers, delivering information and debate not seen elsewhere.

And with over 250 exhibitors across a range of industry services including nutrition, health and breeding, the 2008 Fair is expanding further to involve suppliers of processing, packaging, marketing and retail solutions.

Changes to the Fair do not only relate to the larger pig and poultry producers, manufacturers and retailers. For the smaller-scale producers, especially those who supply, process or market specialist products, there will be valuable information and advice throughout the seminars and workshops, plus the chance to speak to all the leading suppliers.
