New-look Pig & Poultry Fair faces up to changing world
The Royal Agricultural Society of England is busy putting the finishing touches to this year’s British Pig & Poultry Fair taking place at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, on May 13 and May 14th.
With a host of new products and several headline-grabbing initiatives, there is something for everybody at the Fair.
“The 2008 event aims to help producers and the whole food supply chain meet and adapt to the rapidly changing face of food and farming,” says Event Manager Alice Bell.
With more than 250 exhibitors at the Fair, it is a chance to see the latest innovative new products designed to help farmers become more efficient and productive. Product launches will range from a newly released mobile odour detection system, to a special biogas digester generating power on-farm.
Visiting pig farmers will be able to see an innovative real-time production monitoring system, newly designed pig buildings and the latest Round Feeder, developed for pigs from 7kg to finish indoors or outdoors. A new terminal boar, bred to meet the challenges of modern production, will be launched at the Fair.
New products on display for poultry producers will include a multi strain probiotic feed additive to protect chicks against colonization by harmful bacteria and enriched cage models specially designed for the UK poultry industry, as well as new developments in controlled atmosphere stunning and chicken harvesting.
In addition, a special networking initiative, including “The Great Feed Debate” and a series of Forums and Workshops will allow retailers, processors and producers at the Fair to look at the wider issues affecting the two sectors.
An “industry lunch,” has been organised in conjunction with Fair Partner Associated British Nutrition (ABN) for leading figures across the whole food supply chain, including the Minister for Sustainable Food and Farming, Lord Rooker.
This is expected to air several controversial issues, including the soaring feed prices and supply chain challenges.
