23 Mar 2006 Aviagen – flock awards bring good news
Aviagen will be discussing its 2005 Ross UK flock award results just available at the Pig and Poultry Fair. These results confirm the predictions of company programme geneticists. Parent Stock performance has maintained its strong position and broiler performance, especially growth rate, has improved steadily. The highlights are:
- With nearly 200 flocks listed at the awards 19% achieved >140 chicks, up 5% on 2004.
- 37.6% exceeded breed standard.
- Of the seven largest customers, four have increased chick numbers over 2004 levels.
“For Aviagen as a breeding company, being able to monitor field performance of our products, and trends in breed characteristics, is vital to our ability to produce products fit for purpose in their own respective markets,” says UK technical director Dinah Nicholson.
“We continue to work closely with our parent stock and broiler customers to achieve this, and hold annual flock awards. Such strong working relationships also mean we can provide technical advice to improve management practice and further enhance product performance.
“We are confident that working together with our customers, we can deliver further improvements year on year.”
