LORD BACH TO OPEN BRITISH PIG AND POULTRY FAIR
Lord Bach, Minister for Sustainable Farming and Food, will open this year’s British Pig and Poultry Fair on the first day, Tuesday 9 May. The two-day national event at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, which continues on Wednesday 10 May, is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors.
Filling two large exhibition halls and outdoor demonstration areas, the Fair is a platform for UK and overseas exhibitors launching new products and services for both sectors. It is also an opportunity for producers who are reinvesting in their business and for newcomers looking at the opportunities in the pig and poultry sectors to inspect, at first hand, the options.
Also, running through the two days, are two seminar programmes – one in the Pig Central Feature and the other in the combined exhibition area.
“We’ve set out to give producers a one-stop shop,” says Andrea Rutledge of organiser Royal Agricultural Society of England. “A day or two at the Fair will give visitors the chance to see trade stands, make comparisons and hear the latest developments all under one roof.”
Despite not having any livestock on site at the Fair, exhibitors will cover all the latest technical developments. “The Pig Central feature is focussing particularly on training of those involved in pig farming and on the opportunities in the contract finishing sector, perhaps to those not currently in pig keeping.
“We’re pleased to have the new seminar area too with speakers from the Environment Agency as it launches its campaign to help farmers with the new IPPC and agricultural waste regulations.”
The British Pig and Poultry Fair is open from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday 9 May and from 9am to 4pm on Wednesday 10 May. Entrance and parking are free, and full details are on the web site: www.pigandpoultry.org.uk
