Mark is a poultry farmer’s son and attended Harper Adams Agricultural College from 1980-82. His industry experience before returning home to expand the business includes National Farmers Union in 1991 as Regional Poultry Adviser, National Egg Specialist in 1995, British Egg Industry Council in 1999 becoming Chief Executive in 2000. The BEIC is the representative voice of the UK egg industry and administers the ‘Lion Quality’ scheme for eggs.
Additional roles include: Secretary-General, European Egg Packers and Traders Association (EEPTA) (since 1999); Secretary-General, EUWEP (the EU trade association for egg packers, egg traders and egg processors) (since 1999); Vice-President of the European Commission’s Advisory Group on ‘Eggs and Poultrymeat’ of the Advisory Committee on Animal Production (since 2000); Vice-President of Board of Comité Européen De Liaison Des Commerces Agro-Alimentaires (CELCAA) (the EU liaison committee for the food trade) (since 2003); Statistical Adviser, International Egg Commission (1996 – 2006).
