Robin Tapper has spent most of his working life in food retailing and buying, beginning in 1972 as a graduate trainee with Marks and Spencer plc. In 1989, he joined J Sainsbury plc as a Senior Manager, where he was responsible for a number of buying departments including Delicatessen and Ready Meals, Wine, Dairy, Meat, Fish and Poultry. In 2001, Robin left Sainsbury’s to set up RRT Consultants, his own food and wine consultancy with major clients in the food service, wine and primary agricultural sectors. In May 2002 Robin accepted an appointment with the National Farmers’ Union of England and Wales.
Until recently, he was Head of Food and Farming for the NFU with responsibility for food chain issues and the main commodity areas. Robin now concentrates on food chain issues and stakeholder liaison based at the NFU’s London office.
Robin is married with two grown up children and lives in Orpington, Kent. He shares a keen interest in the arts with his family and has a passion for philately and wine.
