Pig Producer
Simon Guise is employed as Pig Business Manager for David Black and Son Ltd, running 4300 sows on a mix of outdoor and indoor units in Suffolk. Since leaving college in Aberystwyth in 1983, he has worked in the pig industry managing commercial and nucleus units. Currently he is Chairman of Agskills, an organisation which has provided many of his own staff with training and career development opportunities in the pig industry. He firmly believes that the encouragement of young staff into all levels of the industry must not be sidelined during the current period of lack of profitability, as they will be critical to the future success of pig production in the UK.
Being married to a midwife, which involves her working some unsocial hours, much of his spare time is spent as a taxi service to his four children. When he does have time Simon likes to escape on his motorbike to blow the cobwebs away.
